More Details
Features
Handgrip
Hand grip size, eg. a metal rod handle is narrower than a flat plastic handle.
Hand grip contouring, eg.curved or straight.
Hand grip covering, eg. leather, foam, resin or plastic.
Wrist strap fitting.
Hook for storage. A hook may also enable a shoehorn to be used as a dressing stick.
Weight of shoehorn will be influenced by materials of construction.

Shaft
Length of shaft - An insufficient shaft length may restrict the user's reach, while an excessive shaft length may encourage the user to hold the shaft below the handgrip thereby making it more difficult to hold.
Type of material eg. plastic or metal. Consider strength, durability, flexibility.
Shoehorns may have a rigid or sprung shaft. A sprung shaft enables the user to manipulate the shoe horn in a variety of positions.

Head
Approximate size of head, including width and length.
Suitability for size and style of shoe.
Suitability of material and finished edges for a user with fragile skin.

General points to consider if a person is having difficulty managing shoes:
Style of shoe and fasteners, for example, slip on shoes versus laced or buckled shoes.
To facilitate ease of donning shoes with laces, consider securing bows first with elastic shoelaces.
It may be useful to adhere the tongue of the shoe to its upper with velcro, before attempting to put on shoe.

Maintenance
Refer to the supplier and manufacturer manual for maintenance instructions and safety warnings.
