Factors to Consider
Use of voice recognition programs is usually most successful when the person has access to the mouse, keyboard or alternatives.
People with impaired speech may still use Dragon NaturallySpeaking as long as their speech patterns are reasonably consistent. People with impaired speech need to trial a voice recognition system to evaluate the likely success of the program as an input method.
People using voice recognition extensively are at risk of developing voice problems. Consultation with a Speech Pathologist specialising in voice and maintaining good voice care practices is important when using these systems.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking allows the user to speak phrase by phrase rather than having to speak word by word leaving a pause between each word as is required by discrete speech systems.
