Short Description
Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a speech recognition computer access system for PC computers. NaturallySpeaking is available in a range of editions varying in features and power offered. NaturallySpeaking allows dictation and editing of text into its own word processing application and into other applications. It also allows editing and voice control of a range of computer commands and of mouse functions. A Macintosh version, Dragon Dictate for Mac 2.0 is also available.

Cannot import/export vocabularies or users.
Does not playback speech
Cannot create multiple dictation sources when creating a vocabulary.
Has a smaller vocabulary so is reported to not be as accurate as other editions
Cannot be upgraded when the next version arrives - a full version needs to be purchased again
No digital Recorder support - cannot transcribe recordings
Cannot create basic voice short cuts for repetitive tasks – “insert signature etc”

Cannot create custom windows voice commands as in Professional
Cannot save audio with dictation for user or third party to correct later.

Factors to Consider
Use of voice recognition programs is usually most successful when the person has access to the mouse, keyboard or alternatives.
People with impaired speech may still use Dragon NaturallySpeaking as long as their speech patterns are reasonably consistent. People with impaired speech need to trial a voice recognition system to evaluate the likely success of the program as an input method.
People using voice recognition extensively may be at risk of developing voice problems. Consultation with a Speech Pathologist specialising in voice and maintaining good voice care practices is recommended if concerns arise.
