Short Description
This alarm system consists of a sensor mat which can be placed on a bed or chair and activates an alarm when the user rises from the mat. It is available in two versions, the standard version which interfaces with a nurse call system, or the pager version primarily intended for home use.

Models
The standard alarm interfaces with a nurse call system that has a plug in call bell pendant. When the user rises from the sensor mat it activates the nurse call system in the same way as if the user activated the call bell. This version consists of two components, the sensor mat and the HPS interface unit.
The pager alarm is a wireless system. When the user rises from the sensor mat it activates the pager within a 100 to 200 metre radius (range depends on environmental factors). This version consists of three components, the sensor mat, the HPS alarm transmitter and the pager receiver.

Sensor Mat
The sensor mat is made from thin flexible vinyl and can be placed on a bed or chair.
When using on a bed, it is placed directly on top of the mattress, usually lengthwise along the centre of the bed to approximately rest under the lower back region of the user. Protective waterproof sheets, draw sheets and or continence pads (required to protect the mat if the user is incontinent) can be placed over the mat.
It may be placed on a chair across the seat and covered with an appropriate material for the user, such as sheepskin or a continence mat. The wire from the mat should be located in a position so it can not be tampered with inappropriately.

HPS (Human Presence Sensor) Interface Unit For Standard Alarm
This unit contains electronics that convert the signal from the mat to a form suitable for the nurse call system. A lead from this interface plugs into the call system and it is powered by batteries.

HPS Alarm Transmitter For Pager Version
This transmitter contains the electronics that monitor the mat and a radio transmitter to signal the pager. This also has the capacity for a call pendant so the user can call for assistance. It is powered by 4 batteries.

Pager Receiver
This portable pager features a belt clip to secure it to the person receiving the signal. It has rechargeable batteries and two displays to indicate whether the call was initiated by pressing the pendant or by the sensor mat.
The pager can accommodate up to 4 HPS alarm transmitters for the one pager. The sequence of beeps from the pager indicate which sensor mat has activated.
