Short Description
Telstra`s Disability Equipment Program has been designed to provide eligible customers with specialised equipment to access the standard telephone service. Equipment includes items such as an extension ringer, larger button phones and teletypewriters (TTY). The equipment listed has been designed to assist people with a variety of disabilities such as visual impairment, physical disability and hearing impairment.

Features
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for equipment through Telstra`s Disability Equipment Program customers must:

1. Have a disability and be unable to use a standard telephone handset and be a Telstra customer i.e. obtain basic line rental from Telstra or be an associate of a Telstra customer residing at the same address (for example, spouse, member of household or employee) and

2. Contact Telstra's Disability Enquiry Hotline on 1800 068 424 and apply over the telephone or email on disability@online.telstra.com.au . Applications for most Telstra Disability Equipment can be made over the telephone, however TTY's & Cochlear Implant Adaptors still require written application forms to be signed by a health professional and submitted.

Application form (available from the Disability Enquiry Hotline) can be signed by an authorised professional i.e. a Medical Practitioner, Audiologist, Audiometrist, Ophthalmologist, Optometrist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Pathologist. The application must also be signed by the person who is the legal account holder of the Telstra account to which the equipment relates.

Note: Business customers who have a PABX, Commander System or other switchboard system, are not eligible for products through the Disability Equipment Program.

Items available:

Teletypewriters (TTYs)
TTYs allow you to send and receive text messages over the telephone network. People with little or no effective speech or hearing can conduct text-to-text conversations with other TTY users, or they can use the National Relay Service to conduct text to voice calls with other users. Telstra supplies a number of TTY models through the Disability Equipment Program:
1. Uniphone 1150
2. Miniprint 425
3. Superprint 4425
4. Large Visual Display TTY
5. Braille TTY
6. Computer modem

COMMENTS: Products hired under Telstra's Disability Equipment Program are provided at the same annual rental charge as a standard rental telephone handset.

If you do not currently have a Telstra rental handset a once-only provisioning fee will apply.

The Disability Enquiry Hotline staff can advise of the current rental charges and if a provisioning fee is applicable.

CALL CONNECT FEE EXEMPTION: People using the call connect 12456 service to be connected to a call can apply for a fee exemption for the connection service fee
