Formica recommends the use of laminate, rather than melamine, when constructing cupboards which are likely to be bumped and knocked by wheelchair footplates. The Formica Laminate is harder than the melamine finish, and resistant to chipping and scratching from wheelchairs and similar. The laminate is applied during the construction of the cupboards and needs to be specified.
