Short Description
The induction cooktop operates via an induction coil underneath the ceramic top, which produces an electromagnetic field over the base of the pan. Power is available immediately and fully, minimising energy use and cooking time.

More Details
When switched on, only the base of the saucepan and its contents are heated, not the cooking zone (element) or the cooktop itself. The surrounding area may warm up due to the heat of the base of the saucepan only. Spillages do not bake onto the surface minimising cleaning.
The cooktop heats only the pan, so the air temperature in the kitchen remains lower.
Induction cooktops produce an instant rise in temperature within the pan which means faster cooking times for most food items. Electronic controls allow the cooking to be finely controlled from gentle cooking to rapid boiling.
The induction system detects the size of the pan base it needs to heat, and if the pan moves off the cooking zone, it switches off. If the hob is switched on without a saucepan being placed on it, it does not produce energy output. It will also switch off with over heating (e.g. pan boiling dry).

Caution
When the hob of an induction cooktop is in operation, the area immediately surrounding the hob is electromagetically charged. Under certain conditions, this could affect the proper functioning of a heart pacemaker. If in any doubt, consult the manufacturer of the pacemaker, or a doctor.

Additional Information
The cooking pan must have a magnetic base, e.g. steel, cast iron or magnetic stainless steel.
The kitchen must have three phase electric power outlet.
