This adaptation for long handled tools for one handed use. It was developed and tested by the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford by Research Gardener, Mr A.S. White and resident disabled gardeners.
The aid consists of a leather gutter which secured the tool to the forearm with hook and loop straps and a wooden hand grip fixed at right angles to the handle.
Extra Equipment / Materials For Use
MATERIALS:
- Thick leather approximately 230mm - 180mm
- Two 57mm 'D' rings
- Two 57mm squares of thick leather to fasten the 'D' rings to the leather square
- pimple rubber (640 x 170mm) to line leather casing around the tool handle
- line of stitching to form gutter by encasing tool handle
- adhesive backed felt (120x 170mm) for lining
- wooden hand grip fitted at ninety degrees to tool handle attached via a jubilee clip
- 2 lengths of 50mm hook and loop fastening
- aluminium or plumbers PVC conduit, vinyl or demin
- 90mm x 20mm dowel
-130mm x 50mm bolt, nut and washer for attaching dowel
