Special Needs Harness

Short Description
A "H" harness which can be fitted before boarding the vehicle. Must be used with an existing standard seat belt. A chest strap fits around the child, fastening with D rings at the side. It is used in conjunction with the fitted lap seat belt in the centre position of the rear seat. Available in two sizes.

More Details
The harness is constructed of 48mm webbing seat belt material, it has two shoulder straps (which can be adjusted to ensure the individual is secure whilst travelling) and a chest strap. The harness has three loops on the shoulder straps below the chest strap, through which the vehicle lap belt can pass. The harness is secured to the vehicle via the shoulder straps which are fastened to either the rear parcel shelf or floor of the luggage compartment in a wagon.

Models
7H3 Small - designed for children weighing between 14kg and 32kg.

7H3 Large - designed for children or small adults weighing over 32kg.


Method Of Use
1. Pass the chest strap through the loops on the vertical shoulder straps appropriate to the size of the child.
2. Fit the harness to the child so that the lower chest strap passes under the armpits and connects the webbing to the metal D rings. Adjust to a firm fit.
3. Sit the child in the vehicle and engage the right and left tongues of the harness assembly to their respective buckles and tighten the webbing at the buckle. The tongue strap should be tight across the pelvis of the child. Choose the loops appropriate to the size of the child.
4. Connect the upper tongue to the buckle from the parcel shelf and adjust so that the child sits firmly against the seat back.

Installation
Installation of the harness can be done by the supplier or self installed with the fittings kit.

7H3 Small harness
The small harness utilises the existing child harness anchor fixture in sedans. For installation into all other vehicles please consult supplier who can advise as appropriate.

7H3 Large harness
The large harness must not be used with an existing child harness anchor fixture if fitted to the vehicle. Please consult supplier for installation instructions.


Caution
The webbing should be checked regularly for signs of wear or fraying.
It must be replaced immediately if it has been worn during a collision.


Licence & Insurance Requirements
In Western Australia, Transport's Vehicle Examiners, (Licensing Division) must approve modifications to vehicles, including installation of seat belts and harnesses. Providing the modifications meet all requirements, a modification permit will be issued and the cost of the permit may be waived for passengers or drivers with disabilities.

To ensure Insurance cover, the vehicle owner should advise their Insurance company of the approved vehicle modifications.
