FACTORS TO CONSIDER:
* Whether an electric or manual can opener is preferable.
* How much strength is required to pierce the can initially.
* Whether a side or top turning handle is preferable (manual).
* Whether the opener is suitable for left and / or right handed use.
* Whether it can be used one handed.
* Ease of using; particular movements required to operate.
* Comfort of holding handle / opener.
* Ease of removing components for cleaning.
* Resistance to rust.
* Length and conditions of guarantee.

SELECTING A SYSTEM:
* Some can openers cut off the entire top of the can, leaving a smooth edge which may result in less risk of cutting and on inside edge.
* An electric can opener requires a whole hand action rather than individual finger movements but may not hold a heavy can without assistance.
* A large twisting bar on a conventional can opener will be easier to operate than a small one.
