SHORT DESCRIPTION
Slip resistant stair treads are designed to minimise slipping on steps or stairs. There are two types of stair treads, stair cappings and stair nosings. Stair nosings cover the leading edge of a step and stair cappings cover most or all of a step. Stair treads that are a contrasting colour to the step increases visibility and the safety of users.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE
Points to Consider when Selecting Slip Resistant Stair Treads:
Application. Stair treads can be applied to any stairway where step edges are chipped or broken, steps have polished or worn surfaces, steps are prone to spillage or where a slip resistant surface is required.
Surface Compatability. Stair treads can be applied to concrete, terrazzo or steel checker plate steps.
Material. Stair treads are comprised of a textured slip resistant surface on a reinforced base. May incorporate an anti corrosive metal backing.
Type of stair tread. Decide whether stair cappings or stair nosings are most appropriate.
Colour. A contrasting colour to the step is recommended. A range of colours are available. Stair treads may incorporate a contrasting colour safety strip.
Method and ease of installation. The method of installation may depend on the material of the step. Consult suppliers regarding the need for professional installation.
Grade required Stair treads are available in fine, industrial, heavy duty industrial or extra heavy duty industrial grades. Consider amount and type of traffic in area.
Length. Available in a range of lengths.
Customisation. Some manufacturers can customise stair treads to a specified length or shape.
Cleaning. Consider the method and ease of cleaning.
Durability. Consider resistance to chemicals.
Life span. Consider if or when material will require replacement.
Aesthetics.
