SHORT DESCRIPTION
Designed to assist users with a visual impairment to identify a hazard or change in direction on a footpath or walkways. There are two types of tactile ground indicators, hazard (dome pattern) and direction (ridge pattern). They are built into or adhered onto pedestrian walkways. The tactile ground indicators can be detected using a cane or alternatively can be detected visually with contrasting colours.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE
Things to consider when selecting Tactile Ground Indicators:
Australian Standards AS 1428.4 - 2002 offer guidelines regarding design and installation about tactile ground surface indicators.
Directional Indicators are a series of raised ridges that are positioned in the direction of travel.
Hazard Indicators are covered with raised domes. Often they are installed across the path of travel to warn of an approaching hazard.
Materials Tactile ground surface indicators are available in a range of materials including metal, cork and plastic.
Colours A range of colours are available.
