SHORT DESCRIPTION
A telephone with large push buttons that has hands free facility. It features a programmable memory, adjustable incoming and outgoing voice volume, and a light that flashes when the phone rings. The ringer can be turned on and off, has adjustable pitch, and has three ringer volumes. An auxilliary input allows connection to various switches for users who are unable to manage the hand set. An insertion point is available for use with a headset.

FEATURES
Telstras Disability Equipment Program
Telstra has made the Big Button Multi Telephone available for rental to eligible customers as part of the range of specialised telephone equipment provided through Telstras Disability Equipment Program. For more information contact Telstra Disability Enquiry Hotline number on 1800 068 424

To be eligible
Users need to be unable to use a standard headset.
Users need to be a Telstra customer and have local calls with Telstra.
Users are required to complete an application form and have it signed by a GP, Audiologist, Audiometrist, Opthalmologist, Optometrist, Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist or other relevant medical practitioner.

Telephone components
Telephone consists of a base station and handset.
· A flashing light in the base station indicates incoming calls.
· This may be wall mounted or desk stand.
· A small light indicates when hands free is activated.
Has PABX mode for use with some switch boards.

Memory Dialling
Three separate one touch memory buttons.
· Ten two touch memory programs.

Volume control
Adjustable incoming voice volume. A switch on the rear is used to engage the volume control for the handset.
· Adjustable outgoing voice volume. A switch on the rear is used to engage the voice aid function.
· Ring amplifier volume has three levels.
· Ring pitch can be adjusted to two levels.
· A switch on the side can turn the ringer off so only the flashing light indicates an incoming call.
· Mute facility.

Key pad
Large sized buttons with white numerals on black background.
· The number 5 button is a tactile locating key with a single raised projection.

Power source
Normal telephone line.
· A power pack is required for any auxiliary switches that need to be added to the phone.

Hearing aid compatibility
Inbuilt hearing aid coupler.

Options
Headset.
· Single auxilliary switches.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE
May assist people to more accurately press the large buttons to dial.
· Large buttons and colour contrast may assist some with vision impairment to see the numbers.
· May assist a user with a hearing impairment as the handset has a volume control, and it has a hearing aid coupler (therefore it is compatible with a hearing aid).
· May assist a user with a hearing impairment to know when there is an incoming call as there is a flashing light, and the ringer can be amplified in volume and the pitch can be changed.
· May assist a user with a soft voice when speaking on the phone as the outgoing speech can be amplified.
