SHORT DESCRIPTION
A car roof mounted hoist, designed for an assistant to lift and transfer a person from wheelchair to car seat. It consists of a permanently mounted steel rack, with housing for a sliding bar with capacity for forward/backward travel. It is made of aluminium and has a detachable hydraulic assembly which slides into the sliding bar. A padded sling seat is provided. A demonstration video or CD is available.

FEATURES
The pack rack, which comes in two sizes, is adjustable to fit most cars.

Sliding bar on pack rack
Maximum sideways extension is 900mm.
Range of forward/backward travel is 320mm.

Lifting arm on hydraulic assembly
Range of lift (distance from hook to edge of sliding bar) is 590mm.
Distance lifting arm extends into car or van 430mm.

Method of use
Note that the padded sling seat remains in position on wheelchair.
1. Position wheelchair beside the car underneath slide bar.
2. Slot hydraulic assembly into hollow cylinder slide bar and pull bar out.
3. Attach buckles on sling seat to hook on lifting arm.
4. Tighten valve on hydraulic jack and pump handle to lift person off wheelchair to same height as car seat.
5. Slide person forward to align with car seat then push sliding bar in so that lifting arm is inside car.
6. Slowly release valve to lower person onto seat.
7. Detach buckles from hook.
8. Remove jack section and secure sliding arm with bar provided.

Installation
Roof section should be fitted by a mechanic
Similar to fitting a packrack
Can be transferred from one vehicle to another if vehicles are similar in width
Lift roof sections can be fitted to more than one car and the same jack section used on each one.
Two lifters can be fitted to cover front and rear seats
Can also be used to lift an electric wheelchair in and out of a van with a side loading door

CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE
Enables one person to transfer a disabled person from wheelchair to car seat without heavy lifting.
Attachment of buckles to one central hook may be uncomfortable for some people (may be overcome by using a small spreader bar).
Tall people may have trouble with head clearance.
