Factors to Consider
All cushions must be monitored to prevent 'bottoming out'. This occurs when the user's weight bears down so hard on the product material that it is flattened and the bony parts are pressed against the surface below the cushion. Where bottoming out occurs even with correct use (eg. correct choice and depth of foam, correct inflation level), a different product may need to be considered.
It is also important to ensure that the item is not accidentally placed upside down or back to front.
Short Description
The Evolution Wave cushion is a lightweight, self-inflating, air and foam cushion with a choice of three Wave bases that provide additional pelvic, thigh and lateral support to the Evolution cushion. A waterproof, washable incontinence cover is standard. The supplier states that the cushions are appropriate for a user at high risk of developing pressure areas. The cushions are available in 16 adult, including 4 bariatric, and 6 paediatric sizes.

Materials
The cushion is a contoured 80mm(3") thick seat support comprised of an air cell containing multiple densities of foam.
Firmer foam is located around the edges of the cushion and in between the legs, providing stability and correct thigh and pelvis positioning.
Softer foam is located under the buttocks and thighs.
The Wave positioning support bases are made from contoured closed cell foam.
Cover
The incontinence cover is machine washable.
It is made of two-way stretch fabric with reticulated foam sewn to the inside to aid in breathability.
The underside of the cover is slip-resistant.
Adjustment
The Evolution cushion is available with either a traditional two-way valve or a Pressure Setting Valve (PSV)
Traditional Two-way Valve
Unweight the cushion and open the valve, which will enable the cushion to self inflate.
Close the valve and sit on the inflated cushion.
Then open the valve and let the air flow out until you are sitting on approximately 13mm (1/2") of air support, then close the valve.
The cushion then remains in the contoured position.
The cushion can be re-inflated by opening the valve again once the weight has been taken off it.
Pressure Setting Valve (PSV)
Sitting on a fully inflated cushion, open the PSV to a pre-set position.
When the PSV senses that the desired level of immersion has been reached, it stops releasing air.
Close the PSV. The cushion then remains in the contoured position.
Cushion can be re-inflated by opening the valve again once the weight has been taken off it.

Contoured Positioning Wedge (CPW)
Provides lateral thigh support to control thigh abduction.
Provides medial thigh support to control thigh adduction.
Lateral Positioning Base (LPB)
Provides posterior pelvic support to reduce pressure on the ischial tuberosities.
Provides lateral pelvic support to maintain pelvis in centre of seat.
Provides lateral thigh support to control thigh abduction.
Provides solid base of support for postural stability.
Contoured Positioning Base (CPB)
Provides posterior pelvic support to reduce pressure on the ischial tuberosities.

Maintenance
Once a week, allow the cushion to fully inflate overnight with all valves open.
