Factors to Consider

Short Description
The Pegasus proactive 2 consists of a contoured foam shell in a vinyl cover; air cells which are inflated/deflated on a cycle, and a motor and battery pack to power the cycle. The power pack is suspended at the rear of the chair in a harness. The Pegasus Daycare alternating cushion can be used with the same pump as the alternating air mattress and needs to be positioned near to the bed.

Features
Inflation/deflation cycle is designed to pump air cyclically, thus both varying the pressure on the bottom, and assisting with bloodflow by acting as a muscle pump.
Portable unit (proactive 2) is heavy and may change centre of gravity of the wheelchair.
Rows of cells (four across) surrounded by a foam base alternate inflation/deflation.
A full audible and visual alarm system in the event of battery failure is present.
The cycle can be altered, and an on/off switch is mounted on the unit.
The unit comes with a vapour permeable cover, which can be wiped clean.

Pegasus Daycare
This unit consists of air cells, including the seat surround.
Designed to be operated by a Pegasus such as with Biwave or Overture the cushion thus is usually mounted on a chair adjacent to the bed and mattress, which is also being operated by the pump.

The Daycare cushion must be used within 3 metres of the base unit and bed size and degree of postural support is not customisable.
