Roho Enhancer Cushion

Factors to Consider
There are many things to consider when selecting pressure care products including nutrition, skin moisture, level of mobility, age, shear, friction, location of pressure ulcer (if present) and hygiene. Any comments regarding level of pressure care is a suggestion made by suppliers as a guide to assist with selection, and this may differ from brand to brand. When selecting pressure care products it is strongly advised that a comprehensive assessment is undertaken by a health professional to encourage correct product selection and monitoring of product effectiveness.
The contour of the cushion is designed to enhance lateral stability and postural support while providing pressure reduction.
This cushion is designed to inhibit or reduce sacral sitting.

Short Description
This cushion consists of a series of air filled cells which can move independently. The manufacturer reports this as being Dry Flotation technology, enabling the user to be immersed in the cushion and be supported by air. This cushion features a contoured surface to enhance positioning, and a two manifold system enabling the interior and outer areas of the cushion to be adjusted seperately. The manufacturer states this cushion is for a user at moderate risk of skin breakdown.

More Details
Material
The cushion is made of fire resistant neoprene rubber.
The cushion can be washed with soap and water or can be steam autoclaved.

Cover
The cover consists of two way stretch material.
It is removable and machine washable.
Slip resistant material is featured on the base of the cover.

Dry Flotation Technology
The manufacturer states there are 4 principles of the Dry Flotation Technology.
Roho cushions are constructed of individual cells that can move independently of each other, enabling the cushion to move with the user and contour to their shape.
The manufacturer states that the cellular design enables the user to immerse into the cushion creating low surface tension.
The manufacturer states that as a result of immersing into the cushion, forces and pressures pushing back against the person are kept equal at all points, resulting in greater contact area between the user and cushion.
The manufacturer indicates that the design of the surface of each cell as well as the ability of cells to move independently reduces friction and shear forces.
Features
The neoprene rubber is able to be patched or repaired if required due to punctures.
The manufacturer states that the separate air cells facilitate air circulation.
The cushion is provided with a cover, repair kit, hand inflation pump and operating instructions.
The surface of the cushion is contoured by variation in the height of individual air cells. This design consists of 50mm (2 inch) high cells centrally placed at the rear of the cushion to create a recessed well area for the ischial tuberosities. 76mm (3 inch) cells are positioned in front of the rear well to create an interior wedge. 101mm (4 inch) cells are positioned centrally in front of the cushion to create a pommel and assist in leg position (two channels are created either side of the pommel). 101mm (4 inch) cells are also positioned along each side of the cushion to enhance stability.
The two manifold system consists of two separate air chambers. The interior seat section can be adjusted independently to accommodate pressure care needs for the ischial and coccyx region. The other section consists of the outer perimeter and pommel area and the separate adjustment is designed to address positioning and stability needs. The manufacturer refers to this feature as Air In Place positioning.
Adjustment
The Enhancer cushion is equipped with two air valves. The outer valve controls air movement in the central bucket section. The inner valve controls air movement in the outer rows and the abductor or pommel area.
To adjust, turn the outer valve anti clockwise to open.
Place the hand pump hose over the outer valve and inflate until the cushion arches upward slightly.
Remove the pump from the valve and turn clockwise to close.
Repeat the above steps for the inner valve.
With the cushion in an over inflated condition, place the user on the cushion in the required sitting position.
Place your hand between the centre bucket section of the cushion and the deepest bony prominence of the user.
With your hand in place, slowly turn the valve counter clockwise to release some air and immerse the user into the cushion. The manufacturer suggests when there is approximately 1.25cm between the deepest prominence and the base of the cushion pinch the air valve and turn it clockwise to close.
The outside rows and abductor may be adjusted according to positioning needs and or comfort level. If the outside rows are adjusted, the lowest bony prominence must be checked again to ensure the user has not bottomed out (made contact with the cushion base and underlying surface).
The manufacturer recommends that the cushion be checked daily to ensure it is properly adjusted and does not allow bottoming out. If any part of the user is touching the cushion base, the entire adjustment procedure must be repeated until correct.

Application
The manufacturer states this cushion is most effective for users who
Are at moderate risk of skin breakdown
Requiring some degree of abduction or adduction positioning
Have poor sitting balance
Have a tendency to sacral sit.

Customisation
To meet individual needs Roho cushions may be customised, such as the following.
Vary the number of valves and compartments.
Vary cell height.
Add or delete cell rows beyond dimensions of standard size models.
Remove sections, such as providing cut out areas.
Ventilation and drainage openings through the cushion base.
