Factors to Consider
Alternative seating systems can be added to this base over time. This may be Invacare or other brands.
Brushless gearless motors may provide benefits for maintenance issues.
Sure Step is a mechanism that powers the front castors independently up when the hit an obstacle. This allows small castors to raise over higher obstacles and steps up to approximately 75mm.
The front wheels need to hit an obstacle to raise over them. The seat may need to be tilted to do this if the footplates are too low.
Rear wheels have a mechanism to push onto the ground if they are about to lift. This can reduce any rocking.
Mark 5 controller is for the Invacare powered wheelchairs only. This may be an issue for repairs for getting parts.

Short Description
A fixed frame centre wheel drive powered wheelchair in childrens and adult sizes with brushless, gearless motors. The chair is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and features a suspension system which keeps the six wheels in contact with the ground at all times. A lock stabilises the frame to prevent rocking. A large variety of options are available. The seating can be customised.

Features
The following are features related to the TDX 5 base.
Heavy Duty True Track motor package with a standard weight limit up to 180kg and top speed of 12kmhr enables drivers to track straighter over various terrain
MK5 electronics with MK5 TTEX controller and the MK5 MPJ driver control offer a maximum current output of 80 amps.
SureStep suspension configured for obstacles up to 75mm and rear suspension aiming for an overall smooth ride. Front wheels lift off the ground to negotiate a rise.
Centre wheel drive offers a tight turning radius as well as improved tracking and ease of driving various configurations.
Stability Lock is a locking system aiming to prevent the chair from rocking forwards when going down inclines. It aims to keep the back wheels in contact with the ground.

Base
The base of this wheelchair remains the same size irrespective of the size and type of
seating.
Adjustable seat back angle mechanism with static tilt positioning and seat belt is standard, with a low seat to floor height. The tilt angle lowers from the rear rather than tilt up from the front.
There is a choice of 15 colours in the base.

Frame
Rear suspension is vertically oriented and allows up to 50mm of movement to
absorb impact.

Motors
The brushless, gearless motors are reported to require less maintenance than conventional motors.
The motors are disengaged by lifting the levers behind each motor. They can
be operated with hand or foot.

Wheels and castors
Drive Wheels are located in the middle of the base. The seating can be positioned so the users centre of gravity is directly above the drive wheels.
356mm pneumatic or foam filled 76mm nylon tyres.
Front and Back Castors are 152mm semi pneumatic 51mm rubber with sealed bearings.

Seat
Flat pan. Cushion of choice to be purchased separately.
Twelve seat widths available in 25.4mm increments.
Ten seat depths available in 25.4mm increments.
Three seat to ground heights are available.
Invacare and other brand seating can be fitted to this base.

Backrest
Curved backrest with memory foam padding and synthetic cover.
Eight backrest heights available in 25.4mm increments.

Armrests
Can be swing away, fixed height or adjustable full length or desk arms.
Full length arms are 75mm wide, 420mm long with moulded raised section at the back to protect the elbows. Soft rubber padding.

Controller
MK5 TTEX with MK5 MPJ joystick. The unit is 190mm long with a digital screen 45mm wide and 20mm high. A graph indicates the battery level and the function is in text. The controller position may be adjusted forward or back through the use of a spanner to release the clamp, and may be mounted on the left or right side.
The controller is fully programmable for speed, responsiveness, turn, acceleration and deceleration and has the option of power tilt, powered elevating legrest switches to be added. The speed and function are controlled by a spring loaded lever which projects 25mm above the control panel on the left side and is operated by pushing it. The setting is then shown on a digital display facing the user. Messages regarding the function of the chair also scroll from right to left on the visual display, for example, to indicate when the motors have been disengaged, or areas to check if the chair will not operate. There are three speed levels. Within those levels, there is infinite speed control by rotating a dial on the right side of the control panel.
The programmer allows for adjustments to be made globally or to one modality. The controller automatically adjusts to the effects of uneven terrain thus avoiding the need for correction by the operator. This is done by controlling the wheel speed and ensuring a forward direction which reduces the effort and fatigue for joy stick, switch and nonproportional drivers.

Footplates
Molded aluminium and may be centrally mounted with a foot board or footplates (are angle adjustable), or bilateral swing away footplates with manual or electric elevation.

Batteries
Two 56 amp sealed batteries are standard. Can be upgraded to 73 amp.
