Short Description
This software is designed for people who are blind or have low vision to read websites. Output can be through speech or Braille with a Braille device attached to the computer. In addition to reading websites, the person can read emails in Outlook Express, Windows menus, and pdf files in Adobe Reader. Connect Outloud also includes a talking word processor to create and read documents. A demonstration version is available from the company's website.

Factors to Consider
It is based on JAWS (full screen reading software) and could be suitable for a beginner or someone who only intends to use internet, email and word processing.
Users will need to learn specific keyboard shortcuts to read text, and navigate through links and web pages.
There are fewer keyboard shortcuts to learn than in JAWS and is therefore simpler to use.
Users need to be able to use a keyboard and become familiar to the location of certain keys.
