'High end' USB webcam. The software was developed using the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. The webcam must have a high quality image to make sure the software can track the image.

More Details
You can customise the settings. This includes how much head movement is needed to move the mouse (speed) and turning on clicking.

Clicking is done using dwell click. This is holding the mouse pointer in the same spot of the screen for a second or two. Or you can click in the regular way using the mouse button or a switch.

Camera Mouse should work with any Windows program. For example entertainment programs, education programs, communication programs, web browsers etc.

You can minimise the Camera Mouse program if you need it out of the way and it will continue to function.

Method of Use
Connect a USB video camera (webcam) to the computer.
Put the camera on the monitor looking at you.
Start up Camera Mouse. Your moving image will appear in the Camera Mouse window.
Use a regular mouse to click on a unique or distinct feature on your face. This will be the point that the software will use for tracking. For example, the inside edge of an eyebrow or eye, or the area between the nose and the mouth.
A small green square appears at the feature being tracked. As you move your head the square moves with it in the image.
Press the Scroll Lock key or the Num Lock key or just wait for 4 seconds. The Camera Mouse program takes over control of the mouse pointer on the screen.
As you move your head the mouse pointer moves accordingly. If you move the regular mouse (or press the Scroll Lock key or Num Lock key), the control returns to the mouse.

Factors to Consider
May be suitable for someone who cannot use a standard mouse.
Requires good neck control. People with shaky or unreliable movements may find it difficult to control the mouse cursor.
It is not suitable for tracking eye movement.
Camera Mouse works best with application programs that require only a mouse and a left click. It easier to use it with programs that don't need you to be very accurate.
If you wear glasses, you can use the bridge of the frame as the tracking point.

Additional Information
The Camera Mouse website has a variety of free games, on screen keyboards and communication software. The games may be useful for training how to use Camera Mouse.
