Wheelchair & Lap Occupant Restraint System

Short Description
This vehicle restraint consists of tracking mounted into a vehicle floor, four webbing straps and locking devices. It is suitable for powered and manual wheelchairs. Tracking and straps are colour coded and can be customised to accommodate a variety of wheelchair dimensions in multi user situations.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier details for pricing.

Features
The restraint system has four points of attachment on the wheelchair: two at the front and two at the rear. The restraint secures the wheelchair to the vehicle. Should an insert be used in the wheelchair, separate insert belts are required. This restraint system is to be used in conjunction with an occupant restraint belt whenever a person travels seated in the wheelchair. A range of compatible lap and lap sash belts, head rests and inertia reel seat belts are available. It is suited for use with all common makes of wheelchair. As the restraint system is comprised of webbing straps and locking devices, it is essential the restraint is placed in storage when it is not in use, as it can be damaged if run over by a wheelchair or walked on. The tracking needs to be cleaned on a regular basis (vacuumed or brushed to remove any dirt) to ensure the restraint can lock into the tracking correctly. Webbing straps are easily removed for storage when not in use.

FLOOR ANCHOR POINTS - Series 'E' tracking, is recessed in to the floor. It is made from steel with slots every 50mm into which the straps can be anchored. Tracking is placed horizontally.

RESTRAINT OF WHEELCHAIR - Consists of four webbing straps, the front straps are fixed length with large snap hooks which have a positive lock action. The rear straps are adjustable, with a large ratchet tensioning device. At one end of the strap is the locking device that clips on the tracking. The front webbing straps wrap around the front posts on the wheelchair frame, above the front castors. The strap secures with a snap hook. The rear straps attach to the rear of the wheelchair frame and feature a metal tensioning buckle, which allows the rear strap to be adjusted in length and tightened to prevent any wheelchair movement.

RESTRAINT OF OCCUPANT - A sash belt is available to be used to secure the wheelchair occupant in conjunction with the wheelchair restraint system.

Method of Use
The following briefly describes how the restraint is to be fitted to the vehicle:
1. Wheel wheelchair over the tracking, brakes off.
2. Secure two front restraints around the wheelchair and into the
tracking.
3. Pull wheelchair backward and put brakes on.
4. Attach rear straps to the wheelchair and the tracking.
Using tensing buckle, ensure the wheelchair is securely held
in place.
Reverse procedure to remove wheelchair.

Cleaning Requirements
The restraint can be washed with soapy water. Abrasives or chemical cleaners should not be used. The webbing should be checked regularly for signs of wear or fraying.
