Short Description
A battery powered unit designed to carry a person in a manual, rear wheel drive wheelchair up and down stairs. It climbs the stairs on two sets of wheels with the wheelchair attached to the unit. Will travel up and down straight or curved stairs. Dismantles into 2 pieces.

More Details
The stairclimber consists of a motor and two sets of wheels at the base and adjustable height handles for the attendant and an adjustable height headrest for the occupant.

The climbing action is by two wheels going up one stair, followed by the other pair with the wheelchair. The wheels have automatic brakes, so they will not roll and will stop wheels when reaching the stair's edge. The upright struts have clamps to secure the machine to the backrest of the wheelchair.

Method of Use
The operating switch is on the push handle with a speed control. The stepping can be set at continuous or one at a time and stop.

A training programme is necessary to operate the equipment safely.


Models / Styles
SCALAMOBIL is designed for use with one wheelchair so that it locks into fixed brackets on the wheelchair and the quick release, rear wheels are then removed before stair climbing. (quick release wheels can be installed if not already present)

SCALAMOBIL WITH SCALAPORT is a more general use stairclimber with a universal frame capable of holding almost any rear wheel drive wheelchair without requiring custom fittings. The wheelchair is mounted by rolling backwards into the curved frame and clamping the backrest in position.

Pushchair for persons dependent upon mobility aids to climb stairs. negotiate narrow stairwells, narrow doorframes, aircraft aisles.
Has optional extras, push handles, head rest, harness, seat belt, foot belt, harness. Folding version also available.

Maintenance
Battery charging is achieved by connecting the charger provided into a mains power point and plugging it into the marked charging terminal on the unit. An optional 12 volt charger is available to plug into the cigarette lighter socket of the car.
