Short Description
A state government scheme (The free limb scheme) administered by the South Australian Health Commission, provides artificial limbs, free of charge to most Australian residents requiring them.

Features
ELIGIBILITY
A free artificial limb is provided on the basis of:
-Limb deficiency either as the result of an amputation or from
birth.
-You are a permanent resident of Australia.
-You have not received and are not entitled to receive
compensation or damages for the incident which led to the
deficiency.

PRESCRIPTION
-The artificial limb must be prescribed at a recognised
Amputee Treatment Centre.
-More than one limb, various types of limbs, repairs to and
replacement of limbs are all arranged through the clinic or
prescribing doctor.
-The scheme covers the issue of six free standard stump socks.

EXCLUDED FROM THE SCHEME:
-Walking sticks and other mobility aids
-Prostheses for conditions other than limb deficiencies
-Footwear
-Assistance with transportation and accommodation costs
-Attendance charges at Amputee Treatment Clinics
-Attendant's allowance
-Cost of any limb manufacture which is privately incurred by the person.
