Lever door handles facilitate gripping and also benefit from the assistance of gravity. The handle should be such that the hand of a person who cannot grip will not slip from the handle during the operation of the latch.
Door handles are possible for a range of applications, can include a range of features including:
- handles designed for internal or external use
- locks or privacy indicators
- upwards rotational handles (the end of the lever is turned back towards the door, to prevent the person's hand from slipping off the handle)
- colour contrasting for people with low vision
- range of shapes of the lever (rounded / square edges)
- lockable method includes: entrance / escape lock set (key from the outside and turn button from the inside unlocks the outside lever; glass door lock set (key from either side), passage set (operated by both levers at all times), privacy lock set (both levers are locked or unlocked by turn button inside), escape lock set (latch bolt operated by inside lever) and dummy trim (no latch bolt)
- one or two handed operation
- range of lever lengths
- range of surface finishes (e.g. smooth, matte)
