Short Description
Cooktops can be gas or electric. They are more expensive to install than a freestanding stove, but can be built in at a height that suits the user.

Electric cooktops are cheaper to buy than gas cooktops but are more expensive to run.

Preference for stainless steel, enamel or toughened glass.
Length and conditions of warranty.
A small mirror on a handle allows checking of cooking progress.
A benchtop grill may be easier to use and clean than a grill drawer.
Large dials with central cross-bars or touch controls.
Easily operated press-button ignition or automatic ignition (gas).
A ceramic glass cooktop (electric) or continuous trivet cooktop (gas) for ease of sliding pots.
Solid electric elements for ease of cleaning.
