ILC Reference NO 11:80:005

Diagram

Short Description
A portable plastic coated steel ramp designed to fit over a set of bathroom scales for weighing people in wheelchairs. Avoids the use of hoists and slings to lift the person onto seated scales. The wide channels of the ramp accommodates wheelchairs of various widths.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier information for pricing details.

Features
When pushing the wheelchair towards the ramp, once the front wheels touch the Handi Weigh, it will tilt up. Continue pushing but use your foot on the tilt bar under the wheelchair as well as pushing with your hands, until the wheelchair is positioned on the Handi Weigh. Stop pushing when the front wheels are against the two 'Stop Bars' welded onto the front of the ramp.
Apply Brakes - Do not leave wheelchair user unattended when on scales.
Read the weight from the scales. Sometimes it is easier to see the dial from behind the patient by looking under the chair. After weighing release the brakes, and either continue moving forward or reverse off the scales. Before weighing the next patient, ensure the Handi Weigh is correctly positioned on the scales.

Method Of Use
There are three methods of weighing:
1. Place the Handi Weigh Ramp centrally on the scales - make sure the bracket is positioned along the back edge of the scales - then put an empty wheelchair on the ramp. The scales can then be reset as zero so when weighing someone the scales will only indicate the persons weight.
2. Note the total weight of the Handi Weight Ramp and an empty wheelchair and when weighing someone deduct this weight from the total indicated. The weight can be written discreetly on the chair for future weighing. This method may be used in a hospital where many different makes of wheelchair are in use.
3. Place the Handi Weigh ramp on the scales and reset the scales to zero. Weigh the empty wheelchairs and note their weight discreetly on the back of the wheelchairs. When weighing a patient simply deduct the recorded weight of the chair from the value shown on the scales.
