Features
FEATURES:
Home visiting GP response service is available through the monitoring center. Client can request afterhours doctor visit via staff at the monitoring center after the activation of the emergency call system.
The unit can be programmed remotely by the monitoring centre, to enable tailoring for individual needs.
The client can have his/her personal medical record stored in the monitoring centre to allow operators to tailor the service to individual clients.
Programming includes adjusting the delay period between pressing the button and delivery of the alarm signal to the monitoring centre; automatic 12 or 24 hourly self testing of the system.
The receiver will give an audible warning in the event of telephone line disconnection or mains power failure (followed by an auto call to the centre an hour later).
Battery status of the transmitter is monitored by the centre.
Voice Back Feature - automatically answers an incoming emergency call in the hands free mode allowing immediate voice contact with an operator. The operator has the ability to listen during emergencies. General incoming phone calls can also be answered by simply pressing the wrist watch or pendant and using the hands free mode.
The alarm will override any other telephone function (eg phone off the hook) on the phone line to which it is connected. If there is more than one handset connected to the same phone line (eg second phone in the bedroom), a Mode 3 socket will need to be installed to ensure that the an emergency call sent via the alarm overrides any activity occurring on any telephone handset connected to that specific phone line. A Mode 3 socket can be installed by an electrician with ACA (Australian Communication Authority) licence.
The necklace pendant has a safety release feature if under pressure to prevent hanging style injuries.
All units are installed by trained technicians.

Short Description
Patient Connect offers a telephone based emergency call system connected with the Family Care Home visiting doctor service. All Patient Connect clients receive complimentary 2 years access to the home visiting doctor service so that all afterhours doctor visits are fully bulk billed.

The system can be operated using a water proof pendant with a range of 50 meters to the base unit. Monitoring centre is located in Brisbane and they can contact friends, family, neighbours or an ambulance if required. Patient Connects emergency call system can also arrange a Family Care after hours doctor service if required.

Client should note that Patient Connects services are available in South East Queensland only.

All doctors who visit residents carry starter medication packs that can be dispensed if required.

More Details
Client should note that this service is only available in South East Queensland.

AFTERHOURS GP SERVICE: Patient Connect is an emergency call system provider that is connected with Family Care Medical Services, which can arrange afterhours and weekend home visiting doctor response service. The service also includes two years complimentary access to the Family Care home visiting doctor service, which provides bulk billed afterhours GP visit service. Complimentary starter medication packs can also be provided by visiting GPs if needed.

OPTIONS: The Emergency Call System is based on a Tunstall Lifeline Connect+ unit. The system can be customised to the needs of individual clients (eg using alternative ways to activate the alarm - pull cord; pneumatic switch to activate alarm; sip/puff control; inactivity monitoring; smoke detector; low temperature monitor). The Monitoring Service is able to distinguish between the type of transmitter and the wearer of the transmitter.

POINTS TO CONSIDER: A client call to the monitoring service, regardless of whether it is an emergency or a routine check, will incur a local call charge to the client.

BATTERIES: In case of mains power failure the base unit has a back up battery which is continuously maintained at full-charge. Minimum expected battery backup time at date of purchase (and when fully charged): 30 hours of stand-by operation. Batteries able to be replaced by carer / resident. Batteries should last for up to 5 years.

MONITORING: The Patient Connect system is primarily used as monitored system, linked with a monitoring centre. Systems are monitored 24 hours per day by the monitoring centre.

Depending on the nature of required assistance, the call centre can relay the call to family or relatives. If required, the call centre can also send an after-hours GP to attend to the client at their house or emergency services for further assistance

TRANSMITTER: The pendant transmitter is called an "Amie" or "Gem" and can be worn as a pendant around the neck or around the wrist on a wristband or clipped to clothing. If worn as a neck pendant, the nylon cord has a plastic clip that will break away in the event of excessive force (so that a client will not accidentally choke if the necklace gets caught while falling). The pendant is water resistant and can be worn in shower or bath. The pendant battery lasts 10 years.

For individuals who experience difficulty operating the Amie pendant, alternative switch options are available such as the Pneumatic Switch and the Puffer Switch.

A separate Fall Detector pendant is also available which the client wears. It uses a two stage detection process in order to identify a genuine fall event. The detector wakes up from a sleep state when the impact from a fall is detected. It then looks at the user`s orientation through a second sensor. If the user is in a lying position and this state is unchanged after 6-15 seconds it sends a warning beep and flashing green light to the user. If after another 6-15 seconds, the Detector has not been moved to the upright position, the radio alarm signal will be sent to the Monitoring Centre. The Fall Detector also has a manual trigger button which allows the user to raise an alarm manually at any stage. The Fall Detector should be positioned above the waist but not on the wrist or arm. The Fall Detector should not be worn in bed and should not be allowed to get wet.

RECEIVER: The receiver unit is incorporated into the emergency call unit. The client`s standard telephone usually sits near the base unit. A large red illuminated call button on each of the units can be used to activate a distress call. A cancel button can be used to cancel an accidental call within a programmed period (eg 10 seconds).

Installation
INSTALLATION: Installation of the system is to be carried out by trained technicians. Installation service is included in the installation price. The installer will check that the transmitter activates the system from various points around the person`s home and will teach the client how to use the system. It is highly recommended that a mode three telephone socket be installed on the phone line to which the alarm is connected if there is more than one handset connected to this line. This allows the emergency call message to override any traffic on any handset connected to that phone line (eg. phone already being used, not hung up properly). An electrician with an ACA licence can install a Mode 3 socket.
