Short Description
A non-monitored, emergency call system that attaches to the user's telephone and uses SMS to contact carers in an emergency. Two way talk back is not available. PANDAH comes with a pendant and a wall pad. The pad is water resistant, however the pendant is not. Up to seven pendants and seven pads can operate off one unit. The system is for purchase only (cannot be rented).

PENDANT: The unit comes with a two button pendant called a "PAL" and a waterproof unit called a "PAD". The pendant can be worn in a pocket, around the neck or on a belt. Extra PAD's and PAL's can be purchased and up to 7 pendants and PAD's can be used per receiver unit. The pendants are not waterproof.
RECEIVER: The receiver unit is an independent unit which attaches to the existing telephone. It has a "help" and "ok" button and a home and away button which can be used if the user is going out. The unit can be taken to other locations and will still operate e.g. if the user is going away and wants to take the system with them. The unit has a low battery and power out alert.
RANGE: The receiver can pick up the signal from the pendant from within approximately 90 meters. The supplier states that if the receiver is placed in the middle of the house, it will pick up the signal from the pendant throughout the house and within a 1 acre block radius.
OPERATION: In case of an emergency, the user presses the help button which transmits a text message via SMS to preselected mobile phone numbers. The unit can send the message to up to 8 mobile phone numbers. The message reads "Urgent - [client's name] needs your help". The system is able to denote which mobile number receives which message. Once the system has been set up, this information can be changed via the internet by the user or carers.
TESTING PROCEDURE: The supplier states that the alert system does not need to be manually tested as the light on the receiver will flash if the phone is off the hook or not light up if it is not working properly. The light on the pendant shows if it is in range of the receiver and lets the user know that the message has been sent.
FEATURES: The unit also allows for up to five "welfare" or "medication calls" a day. A welfare/medication call occurs when the system requires the user to press the ok button. If the button is not pressed, a text message will be sent to alert carers that the user has not answered a call.
The unit can also be set to monitor wandering. The wanderer facility will send a text message to the nominated numbers if the pendant moves out of range of the base unit for longer than a set period of time. This can be set for 5-20 minute periods.
MULTIPLE USERS - up to 7 pendants and wall units can be used per receiver unit.
REGIONAL AREAS - The system is suitable for installation in country areas as long as there is a standard domestic telephone connection. In country areas, it is important to consider the service range of the carers' mobile phone, as they must be in range to receive the SMS.
