Short Description
ALT- Chat Series are dynamic display speech generating devices. Messages can be stored as either digitized (recorded) or synthesized (computer generated) speech. The device can be accessed directly through the 18cm colour touchscreen as well as through scanning using the integrated switch interface. The device allows user to navigate between different pages, which can be customised to suit the user's communication needs.

Features
INPUT: - Vocabulary can be represented as pictures, symbol or word display.
The ALT-Chat uses a programmable software based system of symbols. It is supplied with 3000 PCS symbols (plus 10,000 PCS symbols, 3,000 Imagine symbols and 1,500 Clarity symbols included in the DesktopChat software). The device also support spelling based communication with on-screen keyboard and word prediction capabilities (only in the plus model).
OUTPUT: - Digitised speech (human voice) recorded directly onto the device or synthesized speech (computer generated) using Acapela (6 voices, including 2 child's voices) or Neospeech (American English).
DISPLAY: -Touch sensitive touch screen. This screen also acts as the display i.e. enables user to view messages spoken, control settings etc.

CELL SIZE: - Size and layout of message cells is customisable within overall display size via programming software.
MEMORY CAPACITY: - Minimum 1 hour of speech recorded into the memory
POWER: - Internal rechargeable battery.
Models
ALT-Chat - Suitable for people who primarily need to use symbols for communication.
ALT-Chat Plus - Suitable for people with existing or emerging literacy skills. Includes word prediction, letter prediction and abbreviation expansion. Also capable of loading and saving text files.
ALT-Chat Plus (dedicated version) - Does not give access to any other applications, can only be used as a communication device. Identical to ALT-Chat Plus apart from this.
Method Of Use
Direct access to touchscreen using a finger or stylus. Touchscreen sensitivity can be adjusted.
Keys of different sizes can be included on each page to suit the user. Key guards are available as accessories from supplier.
Spelling keyboard pages can be customised to meet the access needs of individual users.
Also capable of indirect access via single or two switch scanning.
Options
Accessories: Includes DesktopChat software for editing pages and back up to computer.
Other accessories - carry case, stylus with lanyard, keyguard set, moisture guards and wheelchair mounting plate.
