Short Description
The Tech/Scan is a speech generating device which has either 8 or 32 locations. Messages are stored with digitised speech. The Tech/Scan is accessed directly or via a single switch with visual or auditory scanning. It allows for messages to be stored under single cells as well as having separate levels to programme for different situations or users. Models vary according to number of levels and recording times available. Can be customised.

INPUT: - Coverage vocabulary (pictures, symbols or word display relevant to user).
OUTPUT: - Digitised speech (human voice) recorded directly on to the device in a manner similar to a tape recorder.
SCANNING: - Visual or visual and auditory, depending on model
- Linear, step or row/column scanning functions available, depending on model.
DISPLAY: Tech/Scan 8 has 8 message areas
Tech/Scan 32 has 32 message areas
MEMORY CAPACITY: - It can have either 2 seconds or 4.5 seconds of speech recorded into each message area, depending on the model.
POWER: - Tech/Scan devices are powered by 4 AA batteries.
- Recorded messages will not be lost if batteries go flat.

Models: Models of the Tech/Scan vary according to number of message cells, type of scan (visual or auditory) levels available and recording times as follows;
- Tech/Scan 8 messages on 8 levels (4.5 secs or 9.0 secs per messages)
- TechScan 8 Plus (auditory prompts) 8 levels with 6.0 secs or 23.0 ext secs per messages of recording time per message.
- Tech/Scan 32 messages by 2 levels (2 secs or 4.5 secs per message)
- Tech/Scan 32 messages by 4 levels (2 secs or 4.5 secs per message)
- Tech/Scan 32 messages by 6 levels (2 secs or 4.5 secs per message)
- Tech/Scan 32 Plus (auditory prompts) (3.0 secs or 7.5 secs per message)
Method Of Use
- The user selects messages from a paper overlay placed on the face of the device.
- Direct access - pointing or pointing device.
- Indirect access - single switch.
