Recumbent Trike

Short Description
A range of three wheeled, foot propelled recumbent tricycles. The bicyles are available in a range of styles including folding, touring, sports and rail trikes. There is one tandem model available. The trikes are suitable for adults only. Accessories and customisation is available.

Price Guide
Refer to supplier details for pricing.

More Details
FRAME: Chrome Molly 4130 tubing.

SEAT: seats vary from model to model. Most are a mesh hammock style seat.

WHEELS: wheels vary in diameter and tyre tread from model to model.

BRAKES: Twin Sachs VT 70mm Drums.

METHOD OF USE: The individual sits on the trike in a recumbent position (sitting low to the ground with their back supported by the mesh in a semi-reclined position). The trike is propelled by pedalling throgh the legs as per any other bike but in a "lying" position. The hands hold to vertical bars near the front wheels which are used to steer the trike, apply the brakes, and change the gears (via the thumbs).

COMMENTS:
Recumbent position supports the whole body, allows greater power through the pedals, and cuts down air resistence (less effort required compared to conventional bike).
Very stable (which also eliminates the danger of going over the handle bars compared to conventional bikes).
Can be difficult to get on/off the trike.
Because the trike is low to the ground it may be difficult for other vehicles to see it (though it is supplied with a safety flag and no major problems have been reported by users).
