Unwin Solo Pocket Style Wheelchair

Short Description
This wheelchair restraint system consists of circular fixing points mounted into a vehicle floor, webbing straps and locking devices. It is suitable for manual and powered wheelchairs. The position of the fixing points cannot be altered once mounted although the straps can be adjusted in length. Straps can be removed for storage.

MATERIALS: The floor anchor assembly is made of stainless steel. The wheelchair and occupant restraints are made of webbing.

ATTACHMENT: The restraint system has four circular anchor points on the vehicle floor and four points of attachment on the wheelchair: two at the front and two at the rear. The restraint secures the wheelchair aio the vehicle. Additional straps may be required to secure power or tilt in space wheelchairs. There is a choice between Karabiner clips or tongue and buckle clips.

FEATURES: FLOOR ANCHOR POINTS: Consists of four circular floor mounted anchor points onto which a circular cleat is attached. A `slide and twist` action is used to attach the clear to the floor anchor point.

RESTRAINT OF WHEELCHAIR: Consists of four webbing straps, each are adjustable for length and tension. The clear is secured to the floor anchor points and the webbing straps are attached to the wheelchair and then tensioned to secure.

RESTRAINT OF OCCUPANT: A range of lap sash belts are available to be used to secure the wheelchair occupant in conjuntion with the wheelchair restraint system. The occupant restraint systems also attach to the floor anchor points (and vehicle wall where required). A double inertia slit reel or load limiting reels are also available.

METHOD OF USE: The following briefly describes how the restraint is to be fited to the vehicle:
1. Wheel wheelchair into place.
2. Secure the clears (on the webbing straps) to the floor anchor points using a `slide and twist` action.
3. Attach straps to wheelchair frame.
4. Tension the straps to secure the wheelchair.

reverse the above procedure to remove wheelchair. A video demonstrating how to use Unwin wheelchair and occupant restraint systems is available from listed suppliers or Lifetec.

INSTALLATION: Wheelchair and occupant restraint systems should be installed by an approved modifer. Modifications must then be checked by a Queensland transport inspector or alternatively an "approved person". A modification certificate and compliance plate should then be provided. Contact your local Queensland Transport Customer Service office for further details in regards to the process for vehicle modification.

AREAS FOR USE: Suitable for use with all common makes of wheelchair. The restraint system is designed for single user applications.

POINTS TO CONSIDER: To ensure insurance cover, the vehicle owner should advise their insurance company of the approve vehicle modifications. The insurance company may request a copy of the letter of approval or certificate from Queensland transport.

SAFETY: This restraint system is to be used in conjunction with an occupant restraint belt whenever a person travels seated in the wheelchair. A range of occupant restraint systems are available. As the restraint system is compromised of webbing straps and locking devices, it is essential the restraint is placed in storage when not in use, as it can be damaged if run over by a wheelchair or walked on. The webbing should be checked regularly for signs of wear or fraying. Nicks greater than 1mm necessitate replacement. The product must be replace immediately in the event that it has been worn during a collision.

No restraint system is considerred safe to use with occupant rof a scooter travelling while sitting in the scooter. The occupant must transfer to a normal vehicle seat for the journey.


CLEANING: The restraint can be washed with warm soapy water. Abrasives or chemical cleaners should not be used.

WARRANTY: 12 months from date of purchase.
