Short Description
Wheelchair Occupant Restraint Assemblies for Vehicles AS2942-1994 is an Australian Standard which defines wheelchairs which are not recommended for use in vehicles. Particular note should be taken of section A4.2 and figure A2 which details the mobility devices which are unsuitable for transporting.

POINTS TO CONSIDER: The standard states that 'Wheelchairs used in vehicles should have a metal frame to which the wheels and upholstery are connected, and should have a high backrest.'.... 'Certain types of wheelchairs are considered undesirable for use in vehicles, owing to potentially hazardous projections, unsuitable seating height, weak frame components or supporting surfaces, unsuitable battery positions, or means of restraining the battery.
