Short Description
An electrically operated platform lift designed for lifting fully-assembled scooters or wheelchairs into the rear of a minivan. The lift stows inside the vehicle when not in use. The lifter is not designed for lifting of an occupant and scooter.

CONTROLS: The lifter is controled by a hand held unit with one button operation and an on/off switch.
FEATURES: The Joey lifter has a drive on-drive off platform which is self levelling up to 5 degrees. The platform can be manually adjusted in angle to allow loading on uneven surfaces. The carriage (mechanical unit) of the lifter is mounted to the floor at the inside rear of the vehicle. The platform is fitted with adjustable wheel chocks which provide a clear indicator as to where the scooter or wheelchair should stop when driving onto the platform. The platform is fitted with a 3-point securement system to ensure that the scooter or wheelchair is stable during lifting and lowering and also during transit.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Minimum vehicle dimensions requirements as follows:
- 1020mm floor to ceiling/cargo opening
- 1120mm inside edge of door sill to closest row of seats
- 100mm maximum sill height
- 690mm maximum ground to floor of van height
- 1120mm minimum between wheel housings and/or width of cargo opening
- 330mm maximum inside edge of door sill to outside edge of bumper

OPERATION: The Joey lifter is fully automated in operation (that is it extends/ retracts and raises/lowers automatically). It has an independent power supply. The horizontal and vertical speeds are adjustable to meet the users needs. There is a manual back up system for use in the event of power fault.
PEOPLE USEFUL FOR: The Joey platform lifter is useful for scooter users who wish to transport their scooter in a vehicle but remain capable of entering and exiting the vehicle independently or with some assistance. It is not suitable for a scooter or wheelchair user who needs to remain in the scooter or wheelchair whilst entering and exiting the vehicle.
POINTS TO CONSIDER: To ensure insurance cover, the vehicle owner should advise their insurance company of the approved vehicle modifications.

Caution
The lifter should not be used with an occupant sitting in the scooter or wheelchair. It is not legal for a scooter user to remain seated in the scooter whilst in transit. The user must transfer to a seat in the vehicle for all travel.
Queensland transport requires that modifications comply with the Australian Design Rules and the QT Code of Practice and that devices are installed to manufacturers instructions. Modifications must be performed by an authorised modifier. Major modifications must be approved by the Queensland transport vehicle safety and operations section or the approved person scheme. Once approved, a certificate of modification will be provided and issued with a modification plate.
