Birt Wheelchair Carrier

Short Description
A metal frame that is mounted to the towbar of a vehicle, and is designed to carry a folded manual wheelchair. The frame pivots on the mounting, so that the wheelchair can be rolled onto the frame rather than lifted. A model is also available to carry attendant propelled (transit) wheelchairs with small rear wheels.

MATERIALS: Manufactured from zinc coated steel the manufacturer claims to be durable in all weather conditions.

FEATURES: A base plate remains attached to the tow bar of the vehicle. The main frame onto which the wheelchair is placed can be removed from the base plate when the carrier is not required by removing two securing pins.

METHOD OF USE: 1) Remove pin from base frame to tilt carrier to 45 degree angle. 2) Position the wheelchair on the left hand side of the carrier and lift front wheels. 3) Pull the wheelchair into the base frame and return it to horizontal. 4) Insert pin and secure with accompanying rubber straps for travelling.

INSTALLATION: There are Transport Dept requirements such as repositioning and illumination of the vehicle registration plate while the carrier is in use. Also the carrier needs to be removed from the vehicle when not in use. Call the Qld Transport Dept for more information.

OPTIONS: A standard fixed carrier without the 45 degree tilt can be manufactured. Also an increased angle of carrier can be made to suit individual needs. Lightweight loading ramps can be purchased to assist with loading the wheelchair. A child`s T-bar can fit into the bottom part of the wheelchair carrier and can be used for a child's wheelchair.

COMMENTS: Carrier tilts to 45 degrees allowing easier loading.
Lifting of entire weight of wheelchair is not required.
Carrier can be easily removed when not in use, leaving only the base plate.
Modifications are required to position of vehicle registration plate.

Models
Two models are available - one for wheelchairs with large rear wheels and a model for attendant propelled (transit) wheelchairs.
