Stairmate Stairclimber

Short Description
A portable battery operated device which transports a person in a manual wheelchair up stairs. The device is operated by an attendant and is suitable for use indoors or outdoors on straight stairs or turnback stairs that have an adequately spaced landing. The Stairmate is not suitable for spiral staircases and use of the stairmate requires training.

Wheels:
Auxiliary wheels enable Stairmate to be wheeled in the folded position when not carrying a load.

Rechargeable via mains or vehicle charger.
The climbing capacity from one charge and a person of 80 kilograms is approximately 30 minutes of continuous use

Transportability:
Folds for storage or transportation in car boot or can be dismantled into 3 pieces (batteries, guide rail and tracks, wheelchair adaptor).
Main drive unit is 32.7kg in weight and therefore a lifting winch attached to the back of the car will assist attendants to place it into the boot

Application:
Suitable for larger rear wheel drive manual wheelchairs with push handles that are continuous with the rear frame.
Optional: With a platform adaptation the Stairmate can accommodate childrens and sports wheelchairs

Method Of Use
Use slope indicator supplied to measure stair angle
Release safety latch on wheelchair support handle
Lift wheelchair support handle to upright position
Occupant positions wheelchair over rubber tracks
Attendant locks wheelchair to support handle and adjusts safety belt
Slowly tilt back wheelchair support handle until safety latch clicks into locked operating position
Position Stairmate at 90 degrees to stairway
Push operating switch to right and hold. Stairmate will now climb the stairs under its own power.


Options
Headrest - to assist those who feel insecure when tilted backwards.
Transportable ladder - to use with Stairmate when loading wheelchair into buses or vans.
A platform which enables most childrens/adults and sports style manual wheelchairs to be used with the Stairmate.
Safety gauge - used to measure slope and angle of stairs
Safety range guide - gives maximum weight range to be transported for various heights and depths of stairs
Battery charger - plugs into 240v mains power.

Maintenance
Batteries need to be charged regularly [eg minimum weekly]. Batteries need to be replaced approximately every three years. Belts need replacing every seven to ten years.

Additional Comment
Typical Stairway Clearance: This varies with stairway width, passenger and wheelchair size and operator experience: Wheelchair loading and unloading requires a minimum straight line of approximately 3050mm.
Children's wheelchairs and sports wheelchairs can usually be accommodated if the "platform" accessory is used.
