Short Description
Guldmann slings come in a range of sizes for children and adults. They are able to be washed at 85°C and tumbledried. There are different sling models available to serve specific purposes such as seated lifting, walk training, lying position lifting, and leg lifting.

Hoist and Sling Compatibility Notification
Alert to Prescribers of hoists and slings:
A Prohibition Notice has been issued by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland directing that 'the person in control of the work activity stop the activity of use of mismatched equipment for patient handling (hoists and slings)'. A statewide safety alert has been issued by the Occupational Health and Safety Unit within Queensland Health.
In accordance with the required mandatory actions, the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS) is acting immediately, and as a matter of priority, to:
1) Identify clients who have, under the previously existing risk management process in place by MASS, been issued with slings of different brand to the hoist. It is noted that this equipment was specifically prescribed by an appropriately qualified Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist who assessed this as the most appropriate option for the individual client. However, under the abovementioned Prohibition Notice, this practice is no longer acceptable, and where the sling does not comply with the Manufacturer's specific recommendations, a replacement recommended sling must be prescribed and purchased by MASS as soon as possible.
2) The Daily Living Aids Prescriber Procedures have been amended as per the abovementioned Prohibition Notice and the Hoist Sling Compatibility Checklist has been withdrawn as this is no longer applicable. Please refer to the procedures for current requirements when prescribing this equipment.
3) Where suppliers are in the practice of providing slings that are not of the same brand as the hoist, MASS will seek written manufacturer endorsements for the applicable hoist/sling combinations. Details of manufacturer endorsed hoist/sling combinations will be placed on the MASS bulletin board as this information becomes available.

Key Factors:
Supplier states that all Guldmann slings are designed for use with both mobile and ceiling-mounted hoist systems. These slings can be used to move people to and from beds, wheelchairs, seated positions and lying positions, as required.
Special Guldmann sling designs are available for lifting and moving users with:

Accessories:
Guldmann provides a wide range of specially designed lifting accessories for helping both the user and carer ensure greater mobility with less effort. These accessories assist the carer to work using correct postures whilst providing care.
Features of slings:
Material: Supplier states that the material is a dirt repellent polyester characterized by its strength and elasticity.
Padding on legs: All slings with divided leg supports have inset foam pads on legs.
Coloured loops: The coloured loops ensure symmetry in the lift.
Labels: for registration of inspections; label with size indication of sling; instruction label for carer information.
Padding in back section: Additional comfort on models with small back surface.
Auxiliary straps: Slings are able to be used with auxiliary straps.
Type marking: The colour of the band identifies type of sling.
Positioning pocket: All Basic slings are provided with a pocket to ease correct positioning of sling
Fit: Various sizes available for appropriate fit, comfort and safety.
Strength: Supplier states that the maximum capacity is 250/450 kg.
Washing: Supplier states that the sling can be washed at 85°C and tumbledried.
Models
1. Active Micro Plus
Supplier states that this sling supports the upper part of the body (from upper pelvis till under the shoulders) around the chest and upper thigh. The belt has a re-tightening function if necessary to adjust the support around the body.
2. Active Trainer
Supplier states that this sling provides support around the chest and shoulder areas. Detachable leg straps give support around the hip area and prevent the user from sliding out of the sling.
3. Basic Basic
Supplier states that this sling supports the whole body excluding the head.
4. Basic Low
Supplier states that this sling supports the body up to shoulder height.
5. Basic High
Supplier states that this sling supports the whole body including the head.
6. Custom Sit-On
Supplier states that this sling supports the thighbone and back. The user sits on the sling.
7. Custom Sit-On High
Supplier states that this sling supports the thighbone, back and head. The user sits on the sling. Added bands fixed across the opening at each side of the sling prevent the user from falling out sideways. Not suitable for persons with pressure sore problems.
8. Custom Amputee
Supplier states that this sling supports the whole body up to shoulder height and the pelvis region.
9. Uni
Supplier states that this sling has divided leg supports and six lifting straps. The sling is made of a net polyester
material and can remain in the wheelchair. Supports the whole body including the head.
10. Uni-D
Supplier states that this sling supports the whole body, excluding the head. This is a single
patient use sling that tolerates water. Dispose after discharge. Beneficial for infection control program. Same design as Guldmann ABC Basic Basic sling.
11. Uni-D High
Supplier states that this sling supports the whole body including the head. This is a single patient use sling that tolerates water. Dispose after discharge. Beneficial for infection control program. Same design as Guldmann ABC Basic High sling.
12. Uni-D Turner
Suppliers states that this sling is to be used when turning a user into lateral position. This is a single patient use sling that tolerates water. Enables placing of sling under the patient without having to roll or move them. Smaller surface area of material for this sling allows access to patient's skin for inspection, treatment and care. Same design as Guldmann Turner.
13. Range of Disposable Slings
These slings come packed in boxes of 10 slings. Slings are disposable. Different types of slings are available to support the whole body in seated or lying positions or to support particular parts of the body such as the leg. Disposable slings options include the Disposable Leg Sling, the Disposable Repositioning Sling, the Disposable High Sling, and the Disposable Micro Plus Sling.
14. Vip Stretch
Supplier states that this sling is for the 4 Point Hanger. Used when lifting a person where it is required to change the seating position during the lifting process.
15. Standard Net
Supplier states that this sling is for the 4 Point Hanger. Used when lifting a person where it is required to change the seating position during the lifting process, for example, when bathing.
16. Vip Net
Supplier states that this sling is for the 4 Point Hanger. Used when lifting a person where it is required to change the seating position during the lifting process, for example, when bathing. This sling provides the user a more reclining position compared with the Standard Net sling.
17. Repositioning Sling
Supplier states that this sling is for use as part of the linen make-up of the patient bed; leave positioned underneath patient, ready to use for care tasks. Suitable for: rolling to sidelying, repositioning patient up in bed, sitting forward head and trunk, supine lateral transfers to another surface such as beds + stretchers, and full lift in supine off of bed to zero bed scale, stripe linen, or other. Packed in boxes of 10 slings
18. Turner
Supplier states that this sling enables a patient to be rolled or moved by placing of the sling under patient. Smaller surface area of material for this sling allows access to patient's skin for inspection, treatment and care.
19. Sling for Guldmann Stand-Up Lifter
Supplier states that this sling comes in three sizes: S, M and L.
20. Leg Sling
Supplier states that this sling is used when legs need lifting and support. Possible activities are dressings, apply Therapeutic sock/hose, access to hygiene, support of leg to apply ROM devices. Packed in boxes of 10 slings + 1 stiffener.
Options
Lifting Hanger
Spreader bar with safety hook to safeguard against accidental removal of the sling from the spreader bar. Available in 3 sizes.
Cross Hanger
A spreader bar which consists of four arms, which have the appearance of a cross. Suitable when larger distance between leg straps and back straps of the lifting sling is required.
Digital Scale
Battery operated digital scale. Load capacity is 150kg.
Head Support
A padded neck roll which attaches to the upper straps of the sling. To support the head whilst lifting from the floor.
Extra Padding
Synthetic sheepskin padding which is attached to the sling in the thigh area.
