Boxway Folding Powered Wheelchair [standard]

Short Description
A battery powered rear wheel drive wheelchair with a rigid frame. The wheelchair folds down to fit into an integral case. Available in two models: standard Boxway model and Boxway Plus which features a headrest, elevating legrest, powered tilt in space and powered seat height adjustment. The seat is adjustable in depth and width. Load capacity is 100kg.

Additional Information
The motorized wheelchair is to be used only by the registered operator who:
1) Has a doctor's certificate stating that due to movement impairment they have a need to use the wheelchair for assisted travel.
2) Is capable of safely operating the wheelchair.
3) Will abide by the Queensland road rules.


More Details
FRAME: Steel sub frame with suspension spring systems on rear wheels. The wheelchair is a folding design. There are push handles which fold in towards the backrest when not in use.

UPHOLSTERY: Vinyl contoured padded seating.

SEAT: Height and depth adjustable. Slides forwards and backwards (operated by a lever beside the seat). The Boxway plus model has a handle each side of the seat front to assist with transferring on/off the seat. It also has powered tilt in space and powered seat height adjustment.

BACKREST: Reclining backrest which is oeprated by a pnematic jack. The lever is located at the rear of the seat and can be operated by the user of an attendant.

HEADREST: Boxway standard has no headrest.
Boxway Plus - contoured height adjustable (through 150mm range).

ARMRESTS: Removable, height and width adjustable.

LEGRESTS: Boxway plus has removable elevating leg rests that are height and width adjustable.

FOOTPLATES: Standard Boxway - single piece,folding, height and angle adjustable, removable
Front bar of footplate can be used as a transport handle once the chair is folded

CONTROLS: Folding (retractable) control unit which has adjustable positioning. Features a joy stick, speed dial and horn. Controls can be locked.

MOTORS: 2 x 200w

BATTERIES: 2 x 40amp/hr

CASTORS: Anti-rocking front castors

FREEWHEELING: Freewheeling levers located at the rear of the wheelchair base.

TRANSPORTATION: The chair can be folded with all components inside the case which is transported on the wheelchair wheels. The case can be power driven by useing the hand held joystick control or pulled along on the rear wheels via a strap. The hand held control can be used to guide the case up ramps into the rear of a vehicle. Vehicle tie down attachments are standard.

OPTIONS: Boxway Standard: headrest, legrests, manual backrest recline
(note these options are standard on the Boxway Plus)

COMMENTS: People of short stature may have difficulty accessing the seat from the front of the Boxway due to the longer than average approach distance. This may be overcome by removing an armrest and transferring sideways onto the seat.

Licence & Insurance Requirements
A license is not required for a rider in an exempt motor chair (electric wheelchair) which is limited to a maximum speed of 10km/h. The rider of the wheelchair is considered a pedestrian and road rules apply as for pedestrians.

All motorized wheelchairs need to be registered. This also includes wheelchairs that use the footpath, cross roads or drive on the side of the road where the footpath is unsuitable. Motorized wheelchairs may be registered to an individual or to an organization. These organizations may include nursing homes, shopping centers, education institutions and hire companies. A scooter must be registered to be eligible for third party insurance which is optional. There are no fees for registration or compulsory third party (CTP) insurance for motorized wheelchairs.

When registering a motorized wheelchair for the first time, the applicant must provide a doctor`s letter/certificate/statement stating that due to severe movement impairment they need the use of a motorized wheelchair for assisted travel. A doctor's certificate/letter/statement must be provided each time a different motorized wheelchair is registered.
