Alber Scalamobil Stair Climbing Mechanism

ILC Reference NO 43:40:006
Item sourced from ILC QLD database

Scalamobil

Short Description
A stair climbing mechanism that can be attached to most manual wheelchairs. It enables the user to remain in their own wheelchair whilst negotiating stairs. The wheelchair can be adapted for use by attaching two holding devices to the wheelchair. The only standard wheelchair accessory required, apart from the scalamobil fittings, is quick release wheels. Able to manage narrow and tightly curving or circular stairs.

More Details
OPERATION: The manufacturers recommend that for lower energy consumption and safety, the scalamobil should be run from 6 - 16 steps per minute.

ASSEMBLY: 1. Attach the handles to the drive unit of the scalamobil; 2. Attach the scalamobil to the wheelchair via the brackets; 3. Ready to operate.

OPTIONS: The latest scalamobil model features an optional single step control that allows the unit to electronically control the speed of ascent/descent depending on the operators capability.

APPLICATION: The scalamobil was designed for use with extremely narrow stairs, provided the stairs are in good condition. The device can climb stairs which are only 110mm deep.

SAFETY: Features include fully automatic brakes on every wheel, variable speed control from 6-16 steps per minute and the ability to park the wheelchair passenger, the chair and the scalmobil on any landing during ascent or descent.
