ILC Reference NO 41:35:023
Item sourced from ILC QLD database

Push Cush - pedal action

Short Description
An inflatable plastic cushion which has been designed as an exercise and support cushion. When deflated the cushion folds down to a pocket or handbag size. As an exercise cushion, it may benefit people with swollen legs and feet and poor circulation. As a support cushion, it provides a self adjusting backrest or headrest.

More Details
METHOD OF USE: Exercise 1 - Pedal action for joints:
1. Place cushion on the floor with inflator in the upper left hand corner.
2. Spread feet a little to each side of the centre seam and press down alternately. The bicycle pedal action exercises muscles and joints from feet to hips. If air does not readily flow between chambers at first, rub toe across air passage.
Exercise 2 - Treadle action for circulation:
1. Turn the cushion sideways so that the inflator is in the upper right hand position.
2. Place your feet across the centre seam and rock your heels and toes together.
Treadle action motion forces air from one chamber to the other, resulting in a resistive/active exercise for the legs.

PEOPLE USEFUL FOR: Those who are confined to sitting positions for long periods, particularly when travelling or at work.

POINTS TO CONSIDER: - Do not fully inflate. Air must be able to move from one side to the other.
- Squeeze stem of inflator between thumb and forefinger to reduce amount of air or to inflate.
- Less air is needed for back and neck support than for foot exercise.
