METHOD OF USE: A wedge is generally used to position a child in prone lying position. It is used as an alternative to sitting when head control, trunk control and sitting balance are poor or lacking. The achieved position encourages neck extension, trunk control and the development of arm and hand function, by placing the arms forward where the hands can be used for weight bearing or activity. The size of the wedge chosen will depend mainly on the size of the child. It should be long enough to accommodate the child's body from sternum level to the feet, or at least to the knees.
