Short Description
An online pilot program allows people with arthritis to self manage the condition at minimal cost. The program helps people acquire the knowledge and skills to self manage arthritis by participating in suggested activities and documenting progress in the diary provided. For those without internet access, the programme is available in booklet form with a diary.

The program is being developed in two stages.
This is the first stage and the program is being conducted as a pilot study.
If the results are satisfactory the program will be enhanced by stage two which will include four additional modules.

Challenging Arthritis includes:
. an online self-management program
. spiral bound diary and CDs
. information sheets
. telephone advice line.

For those without internet access, the program includes:

. telephone advice line.


Factors To Consider
There are many different types of arthritis and the principles of self management apply to all the different types of arthritis. There are however, some differences in the medical management and the use of exercise in the various forms of arthritis.
For this reason PLEASE NOTE that the exercise module in this program was written for people with osteoarthritis.
