Short Description
People Learn Productions reading kits offer print books accompanied by several cassettes narrated at a range of slow speeds from 40 - 130 words per minute. This enables the user to develop their listening and reading skills as they can follow the print rather than just listen. They can also choose a book at a reading speed to suit their ability, and read books that would normally be too difficult.

People Learn Productions is a non profit organisation partially funded by the Australian Commonwealth Department of Family and Community Services. People Learn Production's vision is that 'all people have the right to read'.
People Learn Productions Kits differ from the usual audio book because a copy of the printed book always accompanies the audio tape and nine slow narration speeds allow people the time to follow the print.
Each book is selected from the range of books published for the general reading public, then narrated at one of these reading speeds. There are nearly 300 titles to suit both adults and children.
People Learn Productions Reading Kits are used by people with:
Intellectual disability
English as a new language
Acquired brain dysfunction
Children who are "reluctant readers"
Dyslexia
Psychiatric problems
Problems interpreting what they read
Older people who prefer slower speeds
People who have had a stroke
Past difficulty or lack of opportunity to learn to read
The speeds of narration are slower than the usual 'talking book'
People can use the audio version to follow the print rather than just listen.
People can read literature at their own speed without the previous feelings of frustration or failure.
SPEED LEVELS
Standard Audio Books are read at 175 - 200 words per minute.
LEVEL 0 = 40 words per minute
LEVEL 1 = 50 words per minute
LEVEL 2 = 60 words per minute
LEVEL 3 = 70 words per minute
LEVEL 4 = 80 words per minute
LEVEL 5 = 90 words per minute
LEVEL 6 = 100-110 words per minute
LEVEL 7 = 120 - 130 words per minute
LEVEL 8 = 140-150 words per minute
LEVEL 9 = 160-170 words per minute
