Short Description
Bathurst Information and Neighbourhood Centre (BINC) is a local community centre for the people of the Bathurst region, and is a member of the “Local Community Services Association” and works according to the “Neighbourhood Centre Policy” developed by this Peak Organisation.

BINC is also a member of the Western Information & of Neighbourhood Centres regional forum.

BINC aims to help people feel part of their community; to take responsibility for their own lives and/or maintain their independence.


SERVICES FOR OLDER PEOPLE AND THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Community Visitors Scheme, which provides volunteer friends to visit people who have no family to visit and are resident in Nursing Homes.

DIAS (Disability, Information and Advocacy Service) is a family support and advocacy service for people with disabilities and for their families.

Experienced Hands. This project was an Initiative of the NSW State Gov. for the International Year of the Older person. It aims to provide a link between older and younger people whereby they can help each other and their communities on a voluntary basis. There is a special focus on older people handing on their skills and becoming mentors to younger people.

Friendly Visitors Scheme, Provides volunteers to visit people in their own homes, people who are lonely, frail aged, housebound or socially isolated in some way.

Home Maintenance and Modification, a HACC program which employs builders to provide ramps and rails and other modifications to the homes of frail aged and disabled people wishing to remain in their own homes.

Side by Side. A program to link people with a disability to volunteering options with the support of a volunteer mentor.


INFORMATION

BINC offers an information and referral service that helps people find information they need on:- community services, local associations, self help groups and leisure activities.

It can assist those who are new to Bathurst and want to access local networks and services; also for those who have a need or query and are not sure where to go for help or support.

BINC produces a Community Organisations List which gives contacts for over 400 local organisations particularly those that are not in the phone book.


RESOURCES

BINC can send faxes, photocopy and laminate documents for a small charge etc and offer free access to a computer

Meeting Rooms BINC has a variety of spaces available for community groups. Training resources are available in the meeting rooms. Click for further information.

BINC also has information on other community resources which are available including meeting rooms and halls around Bathurst which are available for hire.
