Short Description
The NSWFHA supports community based housing associations to deliver high quality, professional housing services to tenants. Housing associations provide housing to low and moderate income earners across the state.

More Details
Through their membership, the NSW Federation of Housing Associations aims to:
. assist people to solve their housing difficulties by providing quality, low cost and affordable housing solutions
. be responsive to local needs
. encourage tenant involvement
. achieve the highest standards for accountability, efficiency and community service

There are several housing associations in NSW. They provide housing across the State from Sydney to Broken Hill in the West.

What is community housing?
Community housing is very much like public housing. It offers secure, affordable, long term housing, and most of the houses are owned by the Government. Like public housing, community housing is supported by the Government. The difference is that it is managed by non profit organisations rather than by the Department of Housing. This means that for paying the rent, sorting out repairs and so on the tenant deals with a person from a community housing organisation.

Except in a few cases, community housing does not include group living, boarding houses or emergency accommodation.

Who Is It For?
Anybody can apply for community housing. Income and other matters are assessed before a place is given .
