Short Description
Environmental control units enable people with limited physical control to turn electrical appliances on and off independently. Over the years, technology has developed to an extent that it is now possible to control everything from a fan and radio to a security system and telephone. Many systems operate through infrared or radio control modules connected to electrical devices throughout the home. More modules can be added to the system as needs change.

. An Environmental Control Unit (ECU) can be stand alone units or integrated with a computer system so that appliances may be operated through a computer.
. The appropriate model will depend primarily on what you want and need to control and how you will be able to operate the system (eg. hand, voice, switch).

. In some situations it may be advisable to consult an expert in the area of technology for people with disabilities.
. The Computer Assistive Technology Services (CATS) is a division of Northcott and located in North Parramatta. They also travel extensively throughout NSW.
. TASC (Technology Solutions for Computer Access) at Cerebral Palsy Alliance is located in Allambie Heights.
