Short Description
A vinyl mat switch that is placed on the floor beside the bed or in the doorway. Standing on the mat will trigger an alarm that alerts the carer. It is electrically operated. Suitable for home use or attached to nurse call systems when fitted with an appropriate plug.

Fall Prevention
In practice the mat switch should be covered with some form of protection mat. In order to reduce the risk of falls, the protector mat should be slip resistant and sit flat on the floor. The protector will also protect the mat switch from sharp objects.

Floor Mat Alarm - Connected to call system
The Standard Mat Switch, when fitted with an appropriate plug can be plugged directly into many nurse call systems - systems that have removable, plug in type, call bell pendants. When the patient stands on the Mat Switch the device activates the nurse call system in the same way as a resident pressing the call bell for assistance.
(Note that in order to use this with some nurse call systems a special interface unit will be required - contact Technical Solutions for advice)
Floor Mat Alarm - Local BUZZER
Suitable for where the carer sleeps in the same room as the monitored person.
The Standard Mat Switch is combined with a simple Buzzer Box, small enough to fit on a bedside table. When someone stands on the mat, the buzzer will sound and keep buzzing till the reset button is pushed.
Takes 1x 9Volt battery.
Two parts required:

Suitable for where the carer sleeps in a different room to the monitored person.
The Standard Mat Switch combined with the cordless Radio Linked Buzzer - this system is mostly intended for home use but could be useful in any location that either lacks a nurse call system or prefers not to connect to it. This is a wireless system with about 20-30 meters range.
Transmitter
The Standard Mat Switch is plugged into the cordless Call Buzzer Transmitter which features a small yet powerful radio transmitter - about the size of a pack of cards. It will operate over distances of up to 30m
Monitor One Patient Only:
Use with the Call Buzzer Receiver.
When the patient stands on the Mat Switch the Call Buzzer Transmitter signals the Call Buzzer Receiver.
Monitor More Than One Patient:
Use with the Radio Call Monitor 4 Channel Receiver which can cater for up to four Call Buzzer Transmitters.
When a patient stands on a Mat Switch the Radio Call Monitor will buzz till the reset button is pressed and a light on the unit will indicate which of the four mats has caused the alert.
Call Buzzer - Receiver Unit
.This unit sounds the alarm when it receives the alarm signal from the Transmitter Unit.
.The unit is portable and can be plugged into a power point at the nurses station, carers sleep - over room, living room, etc. In larger buildings where the carer/s have to cover a large area, the Call Buzzer - Receiver Unit can be moved about as required or multiple Receiver Units can be positioned around the building.
The receiver has two modes of operation:
. Instant - The buzzer will sound only while the call switch is pressed.
. Latch - The buzzer will start when the call switch is pressed and keep buzzing till the carer resets it.
