Short Description
Anybody with an illness or disability that effects their ability to drive or that requires vehicle modifications to drive, has a responsibility to notify the Roads & Traffic Authority.

. A person who drove prior to the onset of illness or disability must notify the Roads & Traffic Authority of their change in medical status or
disability. A persons licence is automatically suspended if there is any
change in medical condition that effects their ability to drive safely,
until such time as they have passed all relevent medical tests &/or driving assessment & training.
. A medical form must be filled out and submitted to the RTA Medical Unit where each case is reviewed individually. If modifications are necessary drivers must also have their licence endorsed at a Motor Registry to enable them to practice before undertaking a disability driving test. The person must have a licenced driver with them while practising.
. A test may be undertaken at any Motor Registry Office.
. For a person who has not driven previously, a Learner's Permit is required & also completion of a medical form which must be submitted and is reviewed by the RTA Medical Unit. A driving test may be undertaken at any Motor Registry.
