Short Description
St Josephs Hospital Driving Program is part of the Occupational
Therapy Outpatient Service. It aims to assist people, where possible, to return to driving in a safe and independent manner.

The Program includes:
Off Road Assessment
* A medical officer completes an RTA Medical Report form.
* A Driver trained occupational therapist conducts a visual screen test as well as assessing the person's physical abilities, thinking skills, awareness of and interaction with other road uses and knowledge of
road law.
On Road Assessment
* Conducted by the occupational therapist and driving instructor.
Depending on the person's previous driving experience and the nature of the disability, further assessments and several driving lessons may be required.
Reports / Recommendations
The OT will write a report making recommendations on a persons ability to drive, modifications etc. The results are discussed with the client and a copy of the report sent to RTA Medical Unit and the referring agency.
Vehicle Modifications
* Costs vary according to the length and type of program undertaken.
Pensioner rates are available.
