Chrysler Conversion

Short Description
Freedom Motors Australia convert vehicles to provide rear entry wheelchair access. The conversions include Family design, Passenger design, and Self Drive design. All vehicles have rear entry ramps. Some vehicles are able to carry two wheelchairs.

Passenger design allows for three seats to be placed in the middle of the vehicle and the wheelchair in the rear of the vehicle behind the three seats, this design provides a seating capacity of five plus the wheelchair occupant

Family design allows for the person in the wheelchair to fit in between two single modified bucket seats in the middle of the vehicle allowing for luggage space in the rear. This design gives a capacity of four plus the wheelchair with the option to have an extra two seater in the rear thus giving seating capacity for seven including wheelchair occupant.

Self Drive design allows the paraplegic wheelchair user to drive the vehicle. The drivers seat moves backwards into position where the wheelchair occupant can get alongside the drivers seat and transfer themselves across into the drivers seat and then move forward into a driving position. All this is done electronically with the touch of a button. The Mercedes Benz Vito & Volkswagen Transporter can be modified to allow the quadriplegic wheelchair user to drive from their wheelchair.

Standards
When purchasing a wheelchair accessible vehicle consider the vertical clearances in relation to the vertical clearances recommended by AS2890.1 (off street parking), and AS4299 (adaptable housing). The recommendations are as follows.
� Vertical clearance at the entrance to an off street car park - minimum 2200mm. The height of the vehicle should be less than 2200mm to enter an off street car park.
